Trinity claimed the program’s 16th district championship with a 75-46 win over Seneca in the 27th District Tournament championship game. The Shamrocks won their 11th consecutive game and have won 23 of their last 24 games. Senior Nathan Dieudonne and junior guards Darryl Hicks and James Quick were named to the All-Tournament Team, but every Rock had a hand in the victory. The Rocks displayed great defense, shared the ball on offense and showed great teamwork all night. Trinity now waits for the Saturday draw to see who their opponent will be in the Seventh Region Tournament. Make sure to check the Internet on Saturday to see who the Rocks will be matched up with and then plan on being at Bellarmine on Tuesday to support the team as they attempt to take their next step toward Rupp Arena. Trinity was well-represented on the All-Seventh Region basketball team. Dieudonne received Seventh Region Player of the Year honors. Dieudonne, a 6-7 senior who has signed with Boston University, leads Trinity in scoring (13.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.2) and is shooting 59.5 percent. Shamrocks head coach Mike Szabo said Dieudonne has been the team’s most consistent player this season. “He can score inside and outside, and he can also put it on the floor and go by you to score,” Szabo told The Courier-Journal. “He’s also become a very good passer. He’s a team guy who wants to win.” In addition, senior Charles Foster and Hicks were named to the All-Seventh Region first team. Senior Troy Saxton and Quick were named to the second team. Congratulations also go to Trinity alumnus and Southern High School head basketball coach Todd Raque ’87 on being named the Sixth Region Coach of the Year. Raque, who is in his 12th season at Southern, has led the Trojans to a 22-8 record.
