The University of Louisville vs the University of Kentucky basketball game is one that most every Kentucky resident looks forward to from the start of the season. With both teams ranked in the top five—as of today–this year it will be even more watched. This game brings tension between fans, and some say this rivalry is the best in the nation. The game is set for Dec. 31 in Lexington at Rupp arena. These teams are among the nation’s best, led by great coaches—Rick Pitino and John Calipari. But which coach will lead his team to victory? This game should be a good game IF: 1. U of L plays to their abilities This team is fast-paced, with a score-press-score-press approach. Pitino is notorious for this, but it’s also his team’s downfall. If the Cardinals don’t score with their three-pointers, it will be a long game for the Cards. IF Gorgi Dieng can stay out of foul trouble, the Cards may be able to compete with the great offense of the Wildcats. 2. The game was at a NEUTRAL site: Yes, I know that all the Cardinals fans are thinking, What if they played at the KFC Yum Center? I agree, but the Cardinals will not beat the Wildcats at Rupp Arena with 23,500 crazy screaming fans who never sit down or stop yelling. It’s the atmosphere that makes it tough to win. Their opponents can’t concentrate and they fall apart. A prime example: North Carolina. But those reasons are my thoughts, and it’s all a guess. So for my predictions: I think that the Wildcats will win at Rupp because the Cards will not perform. With Doron Lamb, who averages 14.4 points, and Terrence Jones, who averages 15, U of L will not be able to stop them. Dieng will get into foul trouble and the Cardinals will not have a big man down low. So look for the Wildcats to run the show at Rupp. To add some fun, I conducted a survey of 51 randomly selected Trinity students. The survey asked, Who is your favorite team? Who will win the game? The results…………..Favorite team: 32 for Louisville; 19 for Kentucky. Who will win?………26-25 in favor of Kentucky. Let the game begin!
