Mr. Dave Aberli, Trinity’s co-director of students, can be seen any given day around the school enforcing rules and keeping the school and its students in order. Every student knows the director and some may fear the thought of merely stepping foot into his office. What many students may not know is that Aberli won a considerable amount of money this past summer in the Kentucky Lottery. He won about $205,000, before taxes. “Uncle Sam,” Aberli said, took about 40 percent of the initial winnings. Upon first reading that he had won Aberli’s first reaction was shock and disbelief. “It was a real blessing,” he said. Aberli plays a three-line computer-picked lottery twice a week. While checking the newspaper for the winners, Aberli saw his name in print under the winners section. “I about had a heart attack,” Aberli said. “I was on cloud nine.” Aberli’s family was, of course, very happy for him, but he said the whole ordeal was slightly embarrassing. His name was printed in The Courier-Journal, and he received teasing from his immediate family as well as those curious to know what was going to happen with the money. For all those hoping to hear that Aberli did something crazy with the money he won, you will just have to keep wishing. He helped his recently-married son with some of the costs of the wedding, along with helping his daughter in paying some of her college loans. A portion of the lottery money was also used to help make house repairs and a certain amount was put away in case a “rainy day” occurs.
