Trinity teacher Sr. Kathy Cash will be taking her final vows in the process of becoming a nun on Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The math teacher and soccer coach will make her perpetual monastic profession on Oct. 1 and will take part in a vigil the night before. Cash said becoming a nun was a long and demanding road. The process of becoming a sister generally takes between five and nine years. Cash’s journey took seven years. The Catholic Church will see her vows as a marriage, and all of her possessions will be given to her community, St. Benedict of Ferdinand, Ind. Cash has not always wanted to be a nun, however. She said, “No, when I was a kid I wanted to get married and have four kids. I had already named them, and I wanted to be an astronaut.” Her decision to go into the clergy was made in college. Cash plans to stay with Trinity even after her final vows and will continue living in Louisville during the week. During her vigil, Cash said, she will “be praying for the entire Trinity community and the amazing impact each of you and each of my students have had on my journey to this point. I am truly blessed!”
