Most students at Trinity have probably noticed the plaques hanging in the hallways. A smaller number have actually read them. Those who walk past them as if they’re meaningless wooden blocks aren’t aware of their origin. They are the members of Trinity’s Hall of Fame. Hundreds gathered in Alumni Hall to celebrate Trinity’s Hall of Fame and its five newest inductees. Trinity President Dr. Rob Mullen introduced the inductees, saying “This is a great group of people. They’re representative of the Trinity experience. They represent the kind of school we want to be.” First to the podium was Mr. Stanley J. DeVore Jr., Class of ‘74. DeVore is most known around campus for his landscaping work, which has won many awards. He paid his own tuition while at Trinity, and is grateful for everything the school gave him, saying, “I want to thank Trinity for letting me be part of their family.” He ended by saying “Trinity is the best; Trinity forever.” Many students take the community service class in their senior year at Trinity. This allows students to go off campus and participate in volunteer work for various grade schools. The next inductee was the founder of this program, Mr. Mike Hamilton H’96. Hamilton refused to take full credit for the creation of the program. He thanked many of those who also contributed, including, among others, Fr. Thomas Duerr and all the elementary schools. “I’d like for this Hall of Fame tribute to honor all of those who helped with the community service program. This honor tonight is shared,” Hamilton said. Mr. Steve Mershon, Class of ‘69, was the next inductee to be introduced. Mershon is involved in legal and justice programs around Louisville and was a District Court judge. He said, “Trinity taught me…to spread my wings and soar.” The next inductee was Rev. Stephen Pohl, Class of ‘77. Pohl is the pastor of St. Margret Mary. He played a key role in the rehabilitation and renovation of St. Thomas, a historical church in Bardstown. Pohl points to Trinity as his main influence. “In a significant way, this school helped my vocations,” he said. “Trinity gave me the confidence to answer the call. Last, but certainly not least, was Rev. Don Springman H’94. Springman started the scripture class at Trinity to enhance students’ understanding of what the scriptures truly mean. “Trinity became my second family and my second home,” he said.
