The historic charm of The Olmsted was the perfect backdrop for Trinity’s Class of 2009 Senior Prom. Thanks to the hard work of the Shamrock Moms and others, the old home was perfectly transformed to showcase this year’s theme, “Night of the Stars.” And the seniors were made to feel like stars as they arrived to find huge green towers of light flanking the front doors, a massive green and white ice sculpture of shooting stars and shamrocks with ’09 chiseled into it, and hundreds of silver and green stars shimmering overhead with a senior’s name on each. “You can really tell people put a lot of hours into setting this place up because it looks amazing,” Eastern Kentucky University freshman Lindsay Crum said. From 9 p.m. until 1 a.m., the dance floor was filled with seniors determined to enjoy every minute of their prom. “I’m pretty sure I was on the dance floor for three fourths of the night,” said senior Phil Kopp with a smile on his face. “I’d dance to a song with my date telling myself I’d take a break after this song, but then when that song was over another one of my favorites came on, which at prom, I guess, is a good problem to have.” But dancing wasn’t the only thing going on throughout the night. There were professional and amateur photos being taken, friends sharing laughs together at the tables, and tired, sweaty couples lounging on the couches resting up before hitting the dance floor again. This memorable night was capped off with the presentation of the coveted Shammys. The Senior Class officers, a few house captains, and their respective dates announced the winners: Tim “Superman” Phillips (Mr. Football), Grant Epperson (Mr. Baseball), Stewart Higgins (Mr. Fall Sports), Pat Kemme (Mr. Winter Sports), Cody Joel (Mr. Visual Arts), Melvyn Little (Mr. Basketball), Craig Brauner (Mr. Performing Arts), Nate Marcum (Mr. Rock Spirit), Matt Neagli (Mr. Congeniality) and the most coveted award, Mr. Trinity, went to Nate Marcum. Higgins seemed to speak for all of his classmates when he summed up the evening: “This is a night I know I will never forget, definitely one of the highlights of senior year.”
