Almost 600 were in attendance for the annual Mother-Son Mass and around 400 mothers and sons stayed for the breakfast that followed the service. The event is part of the service work of the Beta Club at Trinity. Beta Club co-moderator Dr. Debbie Heaverin said, “We don’t often say thanks to our moms. This event is a good way to show appreciation for what she does.” Heaverin co-moderates the club with Mrs. Lucia Simpson. More than 40 Beta Club members helped with the preparation, Mass participation and the cleanup. Alan Hornung, Beta Club VP for juniors, said, “It was an honor to be part of the Mass. I was happy to see that the service we do for Beta goes to something worthwhile like this.” Assistant Campus Minister Mrs. Lisa Kelly said, “The Mass was well attended and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Dr. Heaverin and Mrs. Simpson did a great job planning this special event.” A special part of the Mass was the reflection done by a current senior. This year’s speaker was Chris Corley. Heaverin said, “Chris is a great kid and did a really good job.” Many mothers were really happy with the service. Mrs. Catherine Rueff, mother of senior Jonathan Rueff, said, “It was a nice bonding experience with my son. Jonathan is about to go off to college, so I’m going to cherish moments like these. It was a really great service.” Jonathan Rueff said, “I had a really good time. I got to spend some quality time with my mom, which I don’t usually get to do.” Mrs. Carolyn Evans, mother of junior Joseph Evans, said, “I really enjoyed it; it was a great service.” Joseph enjoyed the Mass as well, saying, “It made my mom cry, but in a good way.”
