For the fourth year in a row, the Trinity Powerlifting Team showcased their dominance as they captured their 4th NASA Powerlifting National title in Oklahoma City. The Rocks were fresh off a newly implemented 6A state championship and expected to represent the state of Kentucky well in front of teams from all over the country. “It was nice to win the 1st ever 6A title.” Coach Bob Maddox said. The Rocks not only won varsity this year in nationals, but also brought younger lifters along to capture the JV title as well as the overall title. Some 1st place lifters for Trinity were, Andrew Thompson, Kevin Fetter, and Tim Phillips. Phillips not only finished at the top, but also set 2 teenage world records for a bench of 325 and a total of. “It seemed like everyone worked harder this year than past years.” said senior, Andrew Thompson, “We grew together like a family and we didn’t want to lose.” Other rocks that scored were; Josh Reed 3rd, Brendan Kinsella 3rd, Jake Wilson 4th, Jeremy Binder 2nd, Eric Frey 3rd, and Sam Robey 3rd. The road to state and nationals weren’t easy. After Meade County refused to let the Rocks lift in their meet because Trinity is a private school, Trinity went on to win 1st at tough meets; Spencer County, Fern Creek, and Central Hardin. “I thought we did well in the other meets, we were able to get all the power exercises in.” (Bench Press, Squat, Dead Lift, and Power Cleans.) Maddox said. The Rocks continue to impress others and have shown not only supremacy in the state of Kentucky but across the nation as well. “I was happy to see the seniors come out and help us win that didn’t have to, they did all the right things needed to win.” Maddox said.
