This issue’s “Getting to Know” features Trinity Advanced Program counselor and teacher Dr. Aaron Striegel. Striegel, who is from Floyds Knobs, Ind., was born on Sept. 18, 1960, to parents Randy and Joanne. He grew up in Floyds Knobs, where he completed middle and high school (Floyd Central ’79). While attending Floyd Central High School, Striegel was part of the cross country, track and basketball teams. After high school, Striegel attended Georgetown College, and following his graduation in 1983, Striegel got his first teaching job at Anderson County High School, where he taught history and coached track. While at Anderson County, Striegel received his master’s in education from the Southern Seminary in 1987. After receiving his PhD from Regent University in 2002, Striegel started his Trinity career that fall. Striegel is the counselor for all Advanced Program students at Trinty and the teacher of a semester class entitled Issues on Drug and Alcohol Awareness. In addition to being a teacher and counselor, Striegel has several other titles: House director of Aquinas, moderator of Students High On Life, volunteer for sophomore and junior retreats, Student Assistance Coordinator, and a state champion track coach. “Dr. Striegel is an asset for Trinity High School. He works hard to see our students do well,” teacher Mr. John Kahl said. Another colleague, Mr. Alan Wilson, said, “He’s very caring but firm in wanting accountability from students.” It seems students and teachers think alike when it comes to their opinion about Striegel. Chris Link, a senior AP student, said, “Dr. Striegel is a great guy and you can always count on him.” Senior Spencer Holden, a student in one of Striegel’s Issues on Drug and Alcohol Awareness classes, said, “He’s a good teacher. He’s down to earth and open to new ideas.” Although Striegel has held several positions at other schools and institutions such as Sullivan University (Lexington), Louisville Collegiate, Corydon Middle School and Christian Academy, he believes he has found a permanent home here at Trinity. “I’d like to stay here until I retire. I love it here,” Streigel said. “I think the students here tend to be more respectful than at other schools I’ve worked at.” Striegel also cited the close-knit faculty: “We like working with each other.” Striegel, who is married to Merry and has six children aged five to 25, is very active in politics and religion outside of Trinity. He is currently a councilman for the town of Georgetown, Ind. This political role requires him to perform several tasks for the town such as supervise town employees, determine a budget, regulate rates, and plan housing development. Striegel decided to take this position because he wanted to bring Georgetown up to date. “I didn’t like what was happening,” he said. Striegel also holds the title of pastor. He is currently the pastor at Grace Community Church in Sellersburg, Ind. He has been a pastor for more than 25 years, and his main goal is to build up churches so in the future they will be able to afford a full-time pastor. No matter what the position, Striegel seems to always bring something positive to the table.
