By Staff Reporter A man by the name of Allan Bloom once said, “Nothing is more singular about this generation than its addiction to music.” That statement could not have been more true of the crowd that turned out to witness Trinity’s Battle of the Bands. The event, which was started seven years ago, features bands with Trinity students in them. While some of the bands were comprised of only Trinity students, a handful of the bands contained students from other local high schools. One interesting storyline for this year’s event was a band calling themselves Knuckle Sandwich. This band, which has also gone by the names of Hellthy Snax and The Pterodactyls that Came on a Thursday from the Mesozoic Era Metal Band in past years, was the winner of this year’s event. Knuckle Sandwich is a veteran group led by seniors Bobby Cartwright, Ryan Longshore and Christopher McConnell, with sophomore Matthew McConnell contributing his vocal skills. The band plays a unique style of music, covering mostly heavy metal bands such as Lamb of God. Most of the band members agreed that the genre of the music they played hurt their chances of winning Battle of the Bands, as it had, according to them, the past three years. In fact, guitarist McConnell said that he was “absolutely shocked when I heard that our band had finally won.” While everyone may not enjoy the heavy metal music that Knuckle Sandwich plays, no one can deny that the band has talent. Senior Chris Smith joked, “I got hit in the face by a knuckle sandwich. I really liked their performance.” Knuckle Sandwich wasn’t the only band that turned heads this year. Another senior band, J Baby, led by Jake Groves, kicked off the Battle of the Bands with a more mellow set. One student in attendance, senior Ben Van Nevel said, “Battle of the Bands is a good chance for everyone to see the talent of their peers.”
