Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is considered by many to be one of the greatest video games of all time. An RPG for the Xbox, with turn-based-style combat and a story line that rivals that of the original Star Wars trilogy, KOTOR can provide hours upon hours of entertainment. The player starts the game by choosing one of three character classes, each with its pros and cons. Eventually the player becomes a Jedi and picks up a number of other playable characters in the party. The player obtains a ship called the Ebon Hawk and travels from planet to planet, acquiring missions and completing tasks. As he progresses through the game, he can find and buy new gear and upgrade items in his inventory. After the player beats opponents or completes tasks, he will receive experience points. When the player acquires enough experience points, he will be able to level up his character and the other members of his party, and in doing so the player will enhance certain abilities of his character. The combat in the game is a very smooth, turn-based system that allows the player to attack with his character and two other members of his party. But the best part of the game has to be the story line, with a plot that keeps you guessing until the very end of the game–and a huge twist midway through the game that you won’t see coming. With the ability to choose a path of light or dark side that will affect the game’s plot, you cannot go wrong with KOTOR. Whether you’re a hard core or casual gamer, make sure not to miss this whirlwind of a game.
