When Oscar season rolls around in February, there will likely be one film missing from the nominations. That movie is “Snakes on a Plane.” Though it definitely will not be the most critically acclaimed movie of the year, it certainly is the most fun movie I’ve seen this year. My fellow seniors agreed. Senior Will Paradis said, “There was about a 30-minute period after seeing ‘Snakes on a Plane’ when I tried to express the awesomeness of this movie, but discovered it had shot down my vocabulary.” “It was pretty awesome,” senior Jeff Howard said. Senior Stacey Marshall of Shelby County High School said, “It will be a classic.” If you do decide to check out the film, remember to leave your intelligence at the door. Don’t worry how the snakes were snuck on the plane, or where Samuel L. Jackson found a spear gun, but take it in as a farce of all the brainless action films out there. “Only if this movie is meant to be a funny, silly movie will I see it. Otherwise, it is a piece of tripe!” said Trinity faculty member Michael Budniak. The movie stars Jackson as FBI agent Neville Flynn, sent to protect a young surfer named Sean, played by Nathan Phillips. While on a the flight back to Los Angeles, ruthless mob boss Eddie Kim, played by Byron Lawson, fills the plane with venomous snakes in an attempt to bring down the flight and stop Sean’s testimony against him. The following hour and a half pitches agent Flynn against a wide variety of serpents, including cobras, vipers and even a 20-foot python. Sure the plot might not be the best and the dialogue is laughable, but “Snakes on a Plane” is still worth seeing, especially on a day when you want to let your brain take a rest from the hassles of school. “See it with friends,” senior Thomas Noel said. I agree. Invite your best buds over and enjoy the flight.
