The school year came with changes regarding jug, TTV, Channel One and the daily schedule. Many of the changes are the result of the new House advising groups that meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but some are simply the restructuring of old policies. Jug In the past 30 years jug (detention) has changed little, but it was decided that recently too many students were ending up in jug, and changes needed to be made. The new jug policy is intended to cut down the number of students going to jug and rewards students who stay out of jug. Percentages thus far indicate that a major drop in jugs has occurred. The biggest change is the Saturday jug. Students who cut jug or receive a demerit are sent to Saturday jugs. Students who avoid jug are entered into a drawing to win a possible $50 gift card to Best Buy. Director of Students Dave Aberli said that the reason for the change is “not to see more people in jug, but to see less.” TTV Trinity Television has also changed this year. Due to the new advising groups, TTV had to be cut down in time while still providing announcements. To do this, Sony plasma screens were installed on the first floor of Floersh and on the walls in Alumni Hall. The screen’s run all day long and show announcements for any activity that needs to send out a message. The daily TTV broadcast, in addition to presenting some announcements, offers more feature stories and commentary. Depending on the success of the three screens, more may or may not be added to other areas around the school. Channel One Channel One News is no longer shown at 8 a.m. every morning. In order to pick up extra time without extending the day, it was decided to show Channel One in resource classes and not during first period. For students who don’t have a resource, a version of the broadcast runs on the plasma screens located in Floersh and Alumni halls. New Schedule The new House advising groups have affected the school’s schedule in more than just changing TTV and Channel One. Classes extend to 2:55 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and don’t begin until 9 on Wednesdays. Classes end at 2:30 on Fridays, adding an extra 15 minutes to students’ weekends. Monday times have not changed–class still begins at 8 and ends at 2:45. Many students said they don’t notice the extra 10 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursdays but always notice the extra 15 minutes on Fridays.
