Wrestling Rocks Looking to Pin Down a State Title

ECHO Staff

Coming off a region championship and a sixth at state, the wrestling Rocks are working to capture a team state title. On the wrestling page of Trinity Athletics, fifth-year head coach Patrick Fleming said, “We…return a squad full of talented wrestlers. Our goal is to have a team-podium finish this year and have multiple individual state champs. Senior George Ferree is looking to defend his state title (at 157) from last year. Senior Bryant Beane and juniors Lane Kiser, Malachi Harris, Ayden Lehman, Morgan Frederick and Gabe Kays are all returning with hopes of winning it all this year. In addition to those athletes, senior Nico Plumeri, juniors Josh Lingle, Colin McDonough-Schuster and Tony Tricase, and sophomore George Steurer are returning starters from last year’s regional championship team. There are several other very talented teams in the state, but our guys are focused and ready for the challenge.”

Defending champ Ferree said, “In my four years at Trinity, this is the most excited that I’ve ever entered a season. With hard work and commitment, we truly feel like we can compete for a team state title. The intensity of our training is incredible, and we return several guys who are looking forward to leading our team. From an individual standpoint, I hope to achieve my goal of winning a second state title in my weight class, but more importantly, nothing would be sweeter than seeing Trinity bring home the state title!”

The Rocks next travel to Bellarmine University on Jan. 21 to compete in a six-way tourney, followed by state duals at Atherton on Jan. 28.
