Center Grove (IN) traveled to Marshall Stadium to take on Trinity in the 2024 home opener on Sep. 6, 2024 . The game was a hard-nosed defensive battle which resulted in a 24-10 Trinity loss.
In 2022, Trinity ended Center Grove’s 31-game winning streak, including one of the wildest finishes to a game (double-overtime) that Marshall Stadium has ever seen. Many upperclassmen remember that game as their favorite memory of high school and were hoping for a game similar to that on Friday.
The 7 p.m. kickoff time was delayed due to rain, but the Trinity fans still packed the stands and made a great environment for the first home game of the season. It was a low-scoring affair, the halftime score was 7-0 in favor of Center Grove.
The Rocks gained momentum with an interception from senior defensive back, Caleb Ricks, and a touchdown run from junior, Zach Floyd. However, that was not enough to stop Center Grove’s Drake McClurg who had a Center Grove record-high 238 receiving yards to lead them to victory.
Trinity suffered a defeat last season against Center Grove, then improved over time, leading to a 6A State Championship. The season is just getting started, so a loss in last Friday’s game may end up helping Trinity fix some issues. The Rocks look to bounce back this coming Friday on the road at Carmel, IN.
