The Trinity basketball team put together a run of three consecutive victories to win the 20-team bracket in the Louisville Invitational Tournament o ver the weekend . The top-ranked Shamrocks came out Friday night with an impressive 17-point victory over No. 6 PRP, and came back Saturday morning with an overtime victory over No. 9 Fairdale en route to a showdown with No. 2 Ballard in the tournament finals that same night. Trinity displayed their usual lockdown defense as Ballard struggled to score all night long. Craig Owens and Raymond Spalding both had “and-1” offensive scores in the final minutes of the game, which in turn led to James Quick’s free throw with 1 second left, propelling the Rocks to a 53-52 victory and tournament title. Quick finished the game with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals and was named the L.J. “Butch” Charmoli MVP of the tournament. Teammates Trey Ivory and Craig Owens were also named to the All-Tournament team. Trinity is the first team to win back-to-back LIT titles in more than a decade, and the Rocks have won three of the last four tournament titles.
