Lacrosse · Trinity’s lacrosse team honored its 16 seniors at Marshall Stadium before a game against the Lexington Catholic Knights on Apr. 30. The Rocks defeated the Knights in a 16-2 win, with seniors Mitchell Kraus and Sumner Franklin scoring four goals each to cap off their last game at home. · Trinity grad Zack Connors ‘10 was named All-Conference First Team for Centre College lacrosse. This was Zack’s third year in a row winning this award, and he placed second in points overall for the Southern Athletic Conference. Baseball Trinity fell to Henderson County by a score of 2-1 on Apr. 26. Powerlifting Senior Lance Kaufman set another school record in the weight room. Kaufman broke the squat record in the heavyweight division with a lift of 545 lbs. That is the heaviest squat of any weight class ever performed at Trinity. Swimming Senior Preston Schilling signed his national letter of intent to swim for St. Bonaventure yesterday. Schilling placed second at the KHSAA state final meet in the 100 breaststroke. He is also a school record holder as a member of both the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays. Schilling has placed at the state meet in the 100 butterfly and the 200 individual medley, and he has even swum the backstroke leg of the medley relay when called upon to do so. “Preston is a true team leader,” Trinity Swimming moderator Mr.Wayne Kraus said. “He was chosen by his peers as a two-year team captain and has been everything you could ever want in a student-athlete. His work ethic is second to none, and he has that special quality that makes others around him perform even better.” St. Bonaventure University captured the Atlantic 10 conference championship this past season and finished the year ranked 13th in the nation in the final mid-major poll. Intramural Volleyball · The 2013 intramural volleyball league, moderated by Mrs. Mary Mason, has come to a close. In the freshman-sophomore league the seven teams each played three matches in pool play and then all entered the single elimination tournament. The championship game was played Apr. 22 and pitted Thomas Schellenberg’s team against Walker Wilson’s Team. It was a battle, and Wilson’s team came out victorious. Team members were Walker Wilson, Zack Shunnarah, Eric Goranflo, Zac Joseph, Tyler Cissel, Harrison Kottkamp, Andrew Wuertz, Isaac Hout, Cooper Warner, Jack Finn and Patrick Smith. · In the junior-senior division 12 teams and the Old School team played in the tournament. After several exciting games, it came down to Clayton Smith’s team playing Trevor Mason’s team on Apr. 29 for the championship. Both teams came in undefeated. Some of the highlights of the match included Smith’s amazing jump serve, Michael Dant’s steady play, Teddy Kazunas trying to stay out of the net, Alex Edlin scoring numerous points with his awesome underhand serve, and Trevor Mason blocking everything at the net. In the end, Mason’s team prevailed, winning the match in two games. This gave Mason’s team a two-peat. After the victory, Daniel Crush said, “That’s why we came back for our senior year!” Mason said, “We started at the bottom, and now we’re here.” The champions are Mason, Crush, Dant, Mason Sullivan, Jack Werner, Edlin, John Fawbush and Joe Wuertz. Ultimate Frisbee The finals of the Ultimate Frisbee tournament for the senior division concluded yesterday with an outstanding matchup between Will Nalley’s team and Joe Senn’s team. Each team cruised into the finals with semifinal victories. Senn defeated Whitehead 12-2, and Nalley got the best of Edlin 5-1. In the final, which was even throughout, Senn’s team took a two-goal lead in the last minute. Their lead held up as time expired. Final score Senn 8, Nalley 6.
