Known for many things including his exquisite penmanship, Coach Mike Snyder was born and raised in Louisville and attended Trinity High School, graduating in 2002. Since then, he has made a name for himself in the Trinity community as an outstanding coach and mentor, but how much do students know about his past?
Throughout the course of his high school career, he played baseball, football, and track. His performance in track earned him a preferred walk-on spot at WKU. After spending one semester at WKU, he transferred to the University of Kentucky, and from there to the University of Louisville to finish his college career. He began as a major in sociology before switching to exercise science. Snyder said, “I think it was always in the plan whether I realized it or not to be in something sport related.”
During college, he took part in an internship at Velocity gym (formerly turned into Louisville Sports Performance Institute, now closed) which eventually became his job after college. During his time at Velocity, he had worked with athletes that ranged from young kids to NFL-level athletes, all while being a world-class bobsledder for the USA national team. After Velocity closed down, he took a 9-5 sales job but was not satisfied with it. Snyder said, “That kind of reaffirmed for me that I need to be in the coaching world.” At the same time, Trinity had a position opening which led him to taking a spot here. Before taking the spot here at Trinity, he was a competitive bobsledder for the US National team until deciding to settle down and begin coaching. When asked about that decision, Snyder said, “I just kind of made a life decision of do I want to keep doing this and make a serious run at the Olympics or I’ve got this great professional opportunity in front of me that could be something that I may never have to look for a job again.”
Snyder took the job at Trinity in 2012 and has been here ever since. He oversees all Trinity’s sports teams’ lifts and programs. However, Snyder said that this programming is only part of his job. “The main part of my job, whether people from the outside realize it or not, it’s the main part of my job is building and fostering relationships with people,” and clearly, he excels at that part of his job along with all others. When not working at Trinity, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and doing all kinds of activities with them. Coming up on the conclusion of year 13 at Trinity, Coach Mike Snyder continues to be the backbone that holds our school’s athletes together.

Love coach Snyder’s caring, commitment and enthusiasm for all of the Trinity student athletes. Definitely a guiding force building young men of faith and character.
