Invest in Your Future with the New Shamrock Capital Club

Trinity is constantly growing and changing, and this year is no exception. The Shamrock Capital Club, a revamped version of the old Investment Club, is bringing fresh energy and competition to campus. Rather than being limited to casual investment talk, the new club aims to compete at the highest level in financial competitions. Trinity junior Henry Conway, along with Mr. Wayne Kraus, led the effort to transform the Investment Club into something new and more competitive.

Conway said he wanted to start this new club because he wanted something more hands-on and involved. The old Investment Club was more relaxed and flexible, and while it was a great experience, Conway wanted something more. Through the new club, Conway hopes to help the students of Trinity prepare for life beyond high school, whether they want to go into finance or simply invest for their future. With this mission in mind, after speaking with Dr. Zoeller, Conway got approval to start transforming the club into something new. As explained in the “About” section on their website (shamrockcapital.org), the organization is special because “as the only independent high school fund in the country, our mission is to provide an authentic value investing experience for all our members. SCM follows a research driven investment approach, focusing in special situations and long-term holdings in great public companies.” After touring Northwestern, Conway got the idea to transform the Investment Club into what it is today. Lucas, the Northwestern Investment Club president, helped Conway and acted as a role model to him throughout this process.

Now the club is undergoing what Conway calls a ten-week finance bootcamp. During this bootcamp, members of all levels will learn more about finance and investing, preparing them for competition in a few months. One of these competitions is the Wharton Global Youth Program. This is a high school investment competition where students in teams analyze the stock market and compete using an online stock market simulator. This helps students learn about all aspects of investing, such as strategy building, risk, and analysis of the stock market.

The Shamrock Capital Club meets every other Thursday after school in Mr. Kraus’s room and is open to students of all levels who are interested in finance. This unique new club has a promising future, so invest early and join today.
