Trinity Volleyball Begins New Era Under Jake Savage

Trinity High School has someone new leading the volleyball program this year: Coach Jake Savage. Excited for the opportunity, Savage said he is ready to take on the challenge of building a competitive team and helping players grow both on and off the court.

“It’s a great opportunity, and I’m excited to have the responsibility and work with the program,” Savage said. His goals for the season are ambitious but clear. “I see us going far in the state tournament and staying competitive in higher-level matches,” he added.

Savage’s journey into coaching started earlier than most might expect. In 2019, while coaching at St. Edward’s, he led the seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball team to a city championship. That moment convinced him that coaching was something he wanted to pursue seriously because he saw he could make teams successful.

Teaching, on the other hand, came about in an unexpected way. “It was kind of a last-minute decision the day of college orientation,” Savage said. “It sounded interesting, so I just picked it up and went with it.” He credits his University of Louisville student orientation leader (who actually happened to be Trinity teacher Mr. Alex Dotsey) for helping guide him through those early steps. Savage chose English as his subject area because of his love for writing and literature. “English always interested me,” he said. “I like the writing and the history behind writing and how certain cultures portray themselves.”

As an alumnus of Trinity, Savage explained that he returned because he wants to give back to a place he admired. “I liked the values it holds, so I wanted to work for it,” he said.

Looking ahead, Savage is focused on Trinity, but he admits that if the right opportunity came along, he would consider coaching at the college level.

For now, Trinity has a dedicated new coach leading the team with the right mindset to compete for it all. Good luck to the Volleyball Rocks this season!
