Senior hockey player Henson Clark is proud of how his team has performed this season. The team’s record is 3-3, with a lot of new freshmen on the roster. They are approaching the halfway point of their season and looking to get more wins. “We’ve got a lot of new freshmen, so our team is bigger,” Clark said. “More legs on the ice is always good.”
The season has been going better than last year but still not as well as the team wants. They are focusing on teamwork and trusting each other with the puck. Even with the new faces, the sense of brotherhood on the team remains strong. “Everyone’s still kind of getting to know each other, but so far so good,” Henson explained. “The brotherhood’s always pretty strong on our team because our season’s so long, and we’re together for so long.”
Now a senior, Clark is stepping into a leadership role, something he once looked up to as a freshman. “It’s kind of weird being the senior that you used to look up to,” he said. “I’m just trying to be a role model on the team. We only have three other seniors, so it feels like a big role.” He adds that the experience has helped him grow as a leader, especially in organizing team events and keeping everyone focused.
Looking back on his early years, Henson admits that joining the high school league as a freshman was intimidating. “You come in as a little shrimp freshman playing against 18-year-olds,” he said. “It was scary at first, but as you grow into it and get older, you become that person you were once scared of.”
For Clark, hockey has not only shaped him as an athlete but also taught him valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork and confidence—qualities he’ll carry beyond the rink.
