Charity Takes Center Stage at Rock the Heart Game

On Nov. 17, the Trinity Shamrocks visited Horton Field, home of the Sacred Heart Valkyries lacrosse team, for the annual Rock the Heart game, which benefits a charity of the team’s choice. This year’s charity was Best Buddies.

Best Buddies is an international organization that creates friendship, employment and leadership development opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Sacred Heart team chose this charity because senior Keira Watson is president of the school’s Best Buddies chapter.

Assistant coach Geoff Norman spoke about the importance of the event and why it is played.

“The game is very important because it is a game where Trinity and Sacred Heart come together for a fun game where all ticket sales go to a different charity each year,” Norman said.

Although the result is not the primary focus, Sacred Heart won 6-5 in overtime. Next year’s game will be held at Marshall Stadium, where ticket sales will go to a charitable organization of Trinity’s choice. Check out photos from the event below.
