The Speech and Debate team has been hard at work with lots of strong results to show.
On November 8th, senior Akhil Mariyappa placed 5th in Impromptu Speaking at Beechwood’s Tiger Tournament.
On November 15th, the team traveled to Lexington to compete at Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Raise Every Voice Invitational. Claiming top honors for the Rocks were sophomores Charlie Ellingsworth and Xander Leavell who were the tournament runners-up in Public Forum Debate.
On November 22nd, the Debate Rocks competed at the November Wyatt Debate League tournament. Sophomore Gio Roccisano advanced to semifinals in Varsity Extemp Debate and was named best speaker. Senior Liam Wahl was named 2nd best speaker in Varsity Lincoln Douglas and was also the tournament runner-up.
Also on November 22nd and 23rd, Freshman Zayden Wright and his sophomore partner Chase Wissing traveled to Chengdu, China to compete in the Youth Debate Challenge sponsored by Sister Cities. In addition to this once in a lifetime immersion into Chinese culture, Zayden and Chase advanced to the quarterfinal round, placing them in the top 8 teams at this international tournament.
