The Trinity annual dodgeball tournament delivered another unforgettable competition. With Romero entering as the defending champion, anticipation was high to see whether any house could dethrone last year’s powerhouse. By the end of the tournament, it was Dante that emerged victorious, shocking many with its gritty run to the title.
The early rounds were packed with intensity, causing several strong houses, including Toussaint, to be eliminated. Toussaint senior Liam Sellinger voiced the frustration shared by many of the early exits.
“I mean, there’s not really much to say,” Sellinger said. “We didn’t play to the standard that we should have played to. We are frustrated with the loss, and we feel that we let the house down.” After an almost heroic performance by Sellinger, he was unable to take down the opposing side.
The championship came down to Patrick and Dante — two houses fueled by very different strengths. Patrick entered the tournament widely considered a frontrunner, with a roster full of baseball players and returning talent. Senior Cade Partin felt confident in his team’s ability from the beginning.
“We feel confident that Patrick will be the champion in this year’s dodgeball tournament,” Partin said before the final. “We had a lot of talent to pull from, so this year we are trying to cement our spot in the House Cup.”
But Dante had other plans.
Relying on grit and determination rather than star power, Dante surged through the bracket and stunned Patrick in a high-energy finale. Tournament MVP candidate Zach Floyd credited the team’s passion more than anything else.
“We don’t have the most talented team, but we have heart,” Floyd said. “If someone doesn’t want to catch the tough ball, then they don’t deserve to be champions. I think that we just wanted it more today than the other team did.”
With Dante claiming first place and Patrick finishing runner-up, the tournament once again proved why it remains one of Trinity’s most anticipated and beloved House Cup competitions each year.
