On Saturday, Jan. 17, Trinity swim and dive hosted its annual Rock the Block meet at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. Swimmers from across Kentucky, including teams from Oldham County High School and Fort Knox High School, competed in the event. Trinity swimmers did not compete but instead timed races and helped run the meet.
Rock the Block gives Trinity swimmers an opportunity to build team chemistry while organizing and supporting the event. Trinity Swim Team coach Mike Essig explained the importance of the tradition. “Rock the Block is a fundraiser we’ve been doing for the nine years I’ve been here. It’s like what we do on Girls’ Night Out, when our guys give every senior girl swimmer a rose. It’s something that’s good for our guys, and we will continue to do Rock the Block.”
For swimmers, Rock the Block is also a way to work together, develop leadership and strengthen chemistry. Senior captain Nolan Sadowski stated that “Rock the Block helped us develop chemistry by working together to record times and through leadership from our captains and younger guys.”
The event also helped swimmers refocus and prepare for the remainder of the season. Following Rock the Block, the Trinity swim team will continue its season at regionals starting on Jan. 23 at UofL’s Ralph Wright Natatorium with finals being the following day. Get out and support your Swimming Rocks!
