"Something Rotten!" Set to Deliver Big Laughs This Week

Brace your spirit for a spectacle most glorious drawing nigh at Trinity High School.

Set in the heart of the Renaissance, “Something Rotten!” features two brothers, Nick and Nigel Bottom, who struggle to find success in the shadow of William Shakespeare. When a local soothsayer predicts that singing and dancing will be the next big idea, the brothers set out to create theater’s first musical. Starring senior Joey Paulin as Nick and Nolan Williams and Everan McCartan as Nigel, “Something Rotten!” opens Wednesday, March 4.

The musical features 41 actors from Trinity, Assumption, the Youth Performing Arts School and Frankfort High School. Additionally, six orchestra members perform music written by Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick, two well-respected composers. Paulin, who is in his 10th show, said he looks forward to the production because “there is something for everyone.” He is excited for his final show at Trinity and hopes to pursue acting after high school.

Additionally, 13 Trinity technicians have devoted hours to building the set and will work behind the scenes to coordinate lights, sound and props. Senior Wyett Ryan, who serves as stage manager and has completed eight plays at Trinity, said, “I’m proud of all the hard work the actors and tech have done, and I’m excited to end on a strong note.” The cast and crew recently completed Tech Week, a weeklong rehearsal leading up to opening night.

Ms. Kate Reedy, head of Trinity’s Department of Theatre Arts, said she chose “Something Rotten!” for the spring musical because “the world needs laughter, and this was the right group of people to bring it.” Reedy has directed 18 plays, produced 20 and choreographed 18 shows at Trinity.

The Tony-nominated musical “Something Rotten!” runs Wednesday, Mar. 4, through Sunday, Mar. 15. Tickets are $16 and can be purchased at trinitydota.com.
