What's Behind the Wednesday Morning Prayer?

Every Wednesday morning, Trinity pauses for a time of reflection and devotion to God. Advancing the Catholic mission has been and will continue to be the goal for the prayers you hear. A couple of years back, students came to Mrs. Mary Emrich and Mr. Chris Luken with a desire for community prayer. This was a chance to grow in unity as a school and a faith, and everyone was on board. With no advising on Wednesday mornings, it was a perfect fit.

When an interview was conducted with Deacon Perkins about the prayer and quiet time, he said this.  “We are a Catholic school, so at the root of everything we do is our faith. So, starting the day, at least one day a week with a very intentional call to community prayer is a good reminder and it helps ground us in our faith.” He explained that part of the mission is to challenge students to grow through inward reflection. It invites them to examine their daily lives and consider how they can better live out God’s Word – both in and out of the classroom. It’s also a time to listen, and to see how God is speaking to them through other staff members and students.

The work that this has done does not go unnoticed. The impact has been seen school-wide with students and teachers reaching out, talking about how they’ve been touched through this small window of time each week.

Deacon Perkins mentioned the goal of getting more students involved. “We’ve had two students lead school wide prayers. I would like to see at least half of the prayers led by students. It’s a challenge.”

While always looking to improve, Trinity provides something overlooked: time to take a look inward, and a special opportunity for growth and change. It gives students a chance to connect, build relationships, and look towards God. In just a few quiet minutes each week, Trinity is reminded of its identity, foundation, and tradition.
