For Trinity senior Cam Beard, soccer has been more than just a sport. It’s been a lifelong journey built on friendship and growth.
Beard first started playing at age 5 with Javanon Soccer Club, where he learned to love the game. “I started playing at Javanon and stayed there pretty much my whole career until LouCity started,” Beard said. “When they launched the academy, I joined and have been with LouCity ever since.”
While soccer has always been his main sport, Beard also enjoyed basketball and golf growing up. But as he entered high school, his focus shifted to soccer. “I thought I was pretty good, and I had a lot of friends in soccer, so I just wanted to keep pursuing it,” he said.
When it came time to choose a high school, Beard’s decision to attend Trinity High School was shaped by a mix of opportunity and connection. A former Barrett Middle School student, Beard had to decide between his options: Trinity and Male High School. “During COVID, Trinity was going to be in person, which made a big difference,” he explained. “It’s also a great school, and a lot of my LouCity teammates were deciding to come here too. That definitely helped make my choice.”
Throughout his time at Trinity, Beard has grown not only as a player but also as a leader. The seniors who came before him left a lasting impression, showing him what true team leadership is like. “They really showed me how to treat underclassmen and make sure everyone’s having a good time,” he said. “That’s something I’ve tried to carry forward this year.”
As he reflects on his final season with Trinity, Beard is grateful for the lessons the sport has taught him. “I’ve learned to be OK with the ups and downs,” he shared. “Not everything’s going to go your way, especially in high school sports. You just have to keep your head level.”
When asked to describe Trinity soccer in one word, Beard said, “Interesting. With Coach Jordan and all the coaches, anything can happen in a day. You just never know what to expect.” His favorite memory as a Shamrock was winning the JV tournament his freshman year against St. Xavier High School.
As he closes out his high school soccer journey, Beard offers a piece of advice to the players coming up behind him: “Enjoy every moment,” he said. “It really does go by fast.”
From a 5-year-old kicking a ball at Javanon to a senior leader at Trinity, Beard’s story reflects lifelong friendship and growth as both a person and a player.
