Trinity High School finished third overall at the Kentucky Indoor Track and Field State Championships on Mar. 4 at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in downtown Louisville. The Shamrocks were led by a strong performance from their distance runners, including a state championship and meet record in the 4×800-meter relay.
Trinity’s 4×800 relay team won the event with a time of 7:57.10, setting a new state meet record and providing a major boost to the team’s point total. The performance highlighted the strength of Trinity’s distance program throughout the meet.
Overall, Trinity’s distance events, including the 800, 1,600, 3,200 and 4×800, accounted for 37 points, more than any other distance program in the state during the meet. Those events played a major role in helping the Shamrocks secure a top-three team finish.
In the 800-meter run, senior Sullivan Yaden finished second, while teammate Jake Hagan placed fourth, giving Trinity two of the top finishers in the event. The pair contributed important points toward the team’s overall total.
Ayden Taylor scored in two distance races for Trinity. Taylor placed fifth in the 1,600 meters and later finished third in the 3,200 meters. Drew Koon also added points in the 3,200, finishing fifth and further strengthening Trinity’s distance performance.
Trinity also competed in several relay events. Along with the first-place finish in the 4×800 relay, the Shamrocks placed third in the 4×400 relay. Trinity finished 11th in the 4×200 relay.
The team also earned points in field events. Sebastian Blue finished fifth in the shot put, giving Trinity a strong placement in the throwing events.
Other Trinity field event athletes included Jack Frederick, who finished 12th in the pole vault, and Jacob Fryrear, who placed 14th in the long jump.
In the high jump, Josh Reed finished 19th, while Lincoln Spiller placed 21st.
The indoor state championship meet brought together top high school athletes from across Kentucky to compete at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center, one of the state’s premier indoor track facilities.
Trinity is coached by John Barbagallo and has built a strong reputation for its distance program. The team’s performance at the indoor state championships demonstrated its depth across multiple distance events, particularly with the record-breaking relay and several high individual finishes.
With the indoor season concluded, the Shamrocks will now turn their attention to the outdoor track and field season, looking to build on their success and continue competing among the top teams in the state.
