Defending Champs Make a Statement: Trinity Baseball Wins 19-4 over South Oldham in Opening Game

The Trinity Baseball Rocks opened their 2026 season with a statement win Wednesday night, defeating South Oldham 19-4 on the road behind an explosive offense with multiple home runs. The matchup also marked a reunion: South Oldham head coach Ryan Wheat is a former Trinity assistant coach and faced his former program for the first time.

The Shamrocks fell behind 1-0 early after a solo home run from the Dragons, but Trinity flipped the momentum soon after. In the top of the second inning, the Rocks scored six runs on five hits. Senior outfielder Zach Floyd hit a home run to deep center field, and Trinity took a 6-1 lead that South Oldham could never match.

The third inning was the nail in the coffin and had plenty of statistics to remember. The Rocks scored 11 runs in the inning and ran away with the lead. Senior infielder Brock Cannady-Miller hit a solo home run, which was followed by a home run from senior outfielder Cade Partin. Grayson Willoughby, Zach Floyd and Jaxson Jett then scored on a double by Gray Davis.

Senior pitcher Grayson Willoughby earned the win on the mound, striking out five batters over two innings while allowing just two hits and one earned run. Aiden Hunt and Carson Hailey followed with two scoreless innings and closed the door on any South Oldham rallies.

Trinity’s high-powered lineup was relentless in the game, collecting 12 hits and 12 walks. Zach Floyd led the way with four RBIs and two hits, while Willoughby, Partin and Jett each had two hits.

The defending KHSAA state champions are right back on track, staying disciplined and powerful. The Rocks are looking to make another run this season and have their minds set on finishing the year with another title.

Trinity returns to action at 6 p.m. Thursday at home against Lafayette, looking to keep its offense and pitching rolling. Trinity ECHO writer Kyle Schofield will be at the scene to report on that game. Go Rocks!
