On Wednesday, April 1, Trinity lacrosse, led by head coach Pete Schroeder, lost 10-9 in a hard-fought game against St. Xavier.
Trinity came out strong, setting the tone early. The Shamrocks moved the ball well and played with high energy, building a 5-2 lead by halftime behind seniors Brady West and Logan Schweitzer. They controlled possession for much of the half and played excellent defense when they did not have the ball.
The momentum continued into the third quarter as Trinity extended its lead to 7-2 and appeared to be in control. However, the game quickly shifted. Trinity struggled late in the third quarter and into the fourth, allowing St. Xavier to score six consecutive goals and take an 8-7 lead.
Despite trailing 10-8 with two minutes remaining, the Shamrocks refused to give up. “This game is far from over,” was heard from the Trinity sideline. With one minute left, Trinity scored to cut the deficit to one. The Shamrocks had several late opportunities to force overtime but came up just short.
Although Trinity fell, it proved it can compete with some of the top teams in the state, showing strong intensity and determination.
The Shamrocks move to 5-3 on the season. Trinity will look to bounce back against St. Xavier (Cincinnati) on April 17.
